Weezer Bassist’s Wife Avoids Jail Time in Shooting Incident
Lauren Shriner, wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, has avoided jail time following a shooting incident that occurred outside their Eagle Rock home on April 8th. The case, which garnered significant attention, concluded with Shriner being granted a mental health diversion program.
Initially, police responded to the area investigating a hit-and-run collision. Officers were searching for suspects in a neighboring yard when the situation unfolded.
According to law enforcement reports, Shriner discharged a firearm during a standoff with the officers. They stated that she ignored repeated commands to drop the handgun.
moments later, she reportedly racked the handgun, aimed it at the officers, and fired a shot. This led to an officer-involved shooting, resulting in Shriner sustaining a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
She was later transported to a hospital for treatment and later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Bail was set at $1 million.
Though, the case took a turn as prosecutors ultimately charged her with firing a gun with gross negligence and assault with a semiautomatic firearm. Shriner entered a plea of not guilty in May.
In September, Los Angeles County Superior Court judge Susan J. De Witt deemed her eligible for a mental health diversion program. This program allows for the dismissal of charges upon successful completion.
Her legal team expressed satisfaction with the outcome. They believed this resolution was appropriate, offering Shriner an possibility for support and rehabilitation.
This diversion program signifies a focus on addressing underlying mental health concerns rather than solely pursuing punitive measures. It allows Shriner to avoid jail time while receiving the care she needs.
