Customizable Emojis Head to iOS Beta
WhatsApp is developing a customizable reaction bar feature for its iOS beta testers, according to reports from technology tracker WABetaInfo. The upcoming tool allows users to replace the standard set of default emojis with up to six personalized selections when holding down on a message. This functionality is part of the broader rollout of WhatsApp Plus subscription tiers, which launched earlier for Android and iOS users.
The messaging platform, owned by Meta, currently restricts quick message reactions to a default panel of pre-selected symbols. Users who want to express a different emotion currently have to tap through to the full emoji menu. The new feature spotted in version 26.32.10.16 of the iPhone beta software aims to streamline this process by letting individuals pin their six most frequently used icons directly to the primary reaction bar.
Flexibility Built Into the Paid Tier
According to software tracking data, the custom arrangement is designed to be fully flexible. Users can modify their chosen shortcuts at any point or reset the bar back to its original layout, tailoring the interface to their personal communication habits. However, early testing indicators show that this specific personalization tool is slated exclusively for subscribers of the paid tier rather than standard free accounts.
The introduction of customizable reaction bars marks a fresh wave of premium extras tailored for paying customers. WhatsApp Plus first rolled out to selected Android users in April before expanding to Apple device owners in May. Subscribers to these paid tiers gain access to a curated package of customization tools and interface upgrades.
Inside the WhatsApp Plus Ecosystem
Current paid features include access to premium sticker packs, 18 distinct color schemes, and 14 alternative app icons to alter the look of the software on a mobile home screen. Furthermore, subscribers can pin up to 20 individual chats to the top of their inbox, compared to the standard limit. The subscription package also bundles ten exclusive ringtones and centralized settings capable of applying configurations across multiple chat threads simultaneously.
Staged Testing and Unconfirmed Public Release
While the feature has surfaced in recent testing builds for Apple devices, the rollout remains limited. Beta testers currently exploring the iOS environment do not yet have active access to the emoji customization settings as development continues. Industry observers note that the tool is expected to eventually transition to Android users as well, though platform release dates remain unconfirmed.
WhatsApp representatives have not yet announced a definitive release date for when the customizable reaction bar will exit the testing phase and reach the general public.
