In recent weeks, we have witnessed unprecedented movements regarding emulations of Nintendo titles. The company that created ‘Super Mario Bros.’ has taken drastic measures by closing one of the most popular programs in this area, Yuzu. Meanwhile, Sony has established a partnership with a company that makes it easy to play older titles on modern consoles.

Is about Implicit Conversions, a company founded by a former Ubisoft employee, Robin LavallĆ©, who developed a graphics engine called SYRUP. This allows you to emulate old titles on consoles such as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch “legally”, relying on reverse engineering the BIOS to avoid copyright issues.

As for reverse engineering, it is about understanding how a program or code works to, from there, determine what its components are and how they interact with each other, in this way they understand how the game was manufactured or programmed to emulate it.

This has piqued the interest of Sony, as it is said that the Japanese company, together with the developers of SYRUP, They plan to bring PlayStation 2 titles to PlayStation 5 through this tool which seems to work efficiently, since it reduces the production cost involved in making ports of old games for current devices.

On the other hand, it is not the first time that Sony works with a third-party developer to bring its old games to new platforms. LavallƩ claims that his friend and co-founder of the company Implicit Conversions, Jake Stine, worked with the Japanese company to bring PlayStation 2 titles to PlayStation 4.

ā€œAfter he left, we contacted Sony to start an experiment to do more joint emulation. One contract led to another and we started recruiting people to help us in this adventure with Sony.”

It is worth mentioning that their project goes beyond bringing old PlayStation titles to the current console. He also assures that this program andIt’s compatible with Xbox and Nintendo gameswith the aim of preserving the culture of classic games.
