In the footage, a pickup truck approaches as the family crosses a pedestrian crosswalk, prompting the father to step directly in front of the vehicle to shield his children before opening the door to confront the driver.
The Family Account and Viral Online Reaction
Following the widespread circulation of the video, Kapook addressed the public via Instagram to express gratitude for the outpouring of concern and to clarify the timeline of events. She explained that the incident occurred roughly a month prior while the family was abroad traveling in Japan, confirming that everyone was safe.
Haru emphasized that the family had no intention of fueling online outrage or assigning blame, noting that both drivers and pedestrians share a responsibility to exercise caution. Kapook stated that the family had already crossed more than half of the pedestrian zone when the vehicle advanced, suggesting that slower speeds and heightened awareness from all parties could have prevented the dangerous close call.
Driver Background and Subsequent Tragedy
As the video drew sharp criticism online, an individual identifying as a relative of the pickup driver stepped forward to provide context. According to that account, the 44-year-old driver lived with a physical disability involving his left leg and wore a prosthetic limb. At the time of the incident, he was driving to pick up his wife and newborn child from the hospital.
Additional details emerged revealing that the driver did not survive the subsequent weeks. The driver died on May 24 following a motorcycle accident that occurred on May 7.
Police Visit and an Emotional Apology
On July 24, 2026, Pol. Lt. Col. Sa-ngat Baobaeddee, Deputy Superintendent of Crime Suppression at the Mueang Samut Songkhram Police Station, visited a 37-year-old woman identified as A (a pseudonym), who is the widow of the pickup driver. Law enforcement officers delivered baby diapers and essential supplies to provide initial humanitarian assistance.
During the visit, the grieving widow offered a tearful apology with her hands pressed together in traditional salutation. She explained that her husband was navigating an incline and accelerating while driving her and their newborn home from the hospital, maintaining that he never intended to place anyone in danger.
Pleading with the public to spare the deceased from further online condemnation, she extended a direct apology to Guy Ratchanont and Haru Suprakob for the frightening roadside encounter.
