“Ventspils” and “VEF Rīga” teams will compete today in Rīga for the bronze medals of “Pafbet” Latvian-Estonian Basketball League (LIBL). The game “Rimi” in the Olympic Center will start at 19:00, it will be broadcast live on the TV4 channel.
The champion will be determined on Saturday, in Tallinn, the local “Kalev”https://www.ventasbalss.lv/”Cramo” will fight with “Prometey” from Slobojanska. For the first time in the history of the tournament, one of the Latvian teams is not in the final.
Ventspilnieki finished the regular tournament in the fourth position, playing the “play-off” series with three matches – in the quarter-final 2-1 against “University of Tartu” https://www.ventasbalss.lv/”Maks & Moorits” and in the semi-final 1-2 against “Kalev” “https://www.ventasbalss.lv/”Cramo”. In the main tournament “VEF Rīga” was third, in the quarter-final series they beat “Rīgas Zellius” 2-0, but in the semi-final they recognized the superiority of “Prometey” 0-2.
Linards Jaunzems stood out for “Ventspils” with 16.2 points and 7.7 rebounds, while Ishmael El-Amin averaged 20.0 points.
Arnaldo Toro Barea is the most productive player in the “VEF Riga” team, who averaged 11.8 points and 11.9 rebounds per match. Gregory Whittington is also productive – he averages 15.6 points and 8.1 rebounds. Sean Pipes is averaging 17.1 points and 4.0 assists.

The best men’s basketball clubs of Latvia and Estonia played in the joint championship for the first time in the 2019 season, when 15 teams participated in the competition. “Ventspils” basketball players became the first winners of the league in the final four tournament.
Last season, in the finals of the “Final 4” tournament, the basketball players of Slobojanska “Prometey” became the champions.
