A family doctor from Sherbrooke launched a cry from the heart a few weeks before the entry into force of a regulation adopted in 2022 to promote access to primary care, measures that he considers counterproductive.

“This will further reduce access to the first line,” said Estrie family doctor Dr. François Roy.

He signed an open letter in which he expresses his concerns about the lack of replacements due to the government’s devaluation of the profession as well as a new, even more restrictive framework which, according to him, will push family doctors to leave. the public network.

“So I cry for my first line in which I work hard. In which I try to offer the best possible care to as many people as possible. With the limits of this system which is more than sick, which is collapsing,” wrote Dr. Roy.

A widespread feeling according to Dr. Christian Gaouette, president of the Association of General Practitioners of Estrie.

“We all share the fears expressed by Dr. Roy. When we hit family doctors on the head by saying that they don’t deliver the goods, that doesn’t at all make medical students want to choose our great profession,” he explained.

The office of the Minister of Health referred Monday to statements made by Christian Dubé last week and who spoke of “disinformation” on the part of the Federation of General Practitioners of Quebec.
