This Week in Gaming: Bloodlines 2,Sonic Racing, adn the Surprisingly Affecting “Baby Steps“
This week brought a mix of anticipated disappointments, pleasant surprises, and quietly captivating experiences in the gaming world. From a long-awaited RPG to a vibrant racer and a uniquely challenging walking simulator, here’s a look at what’s been occupying our team’s playtime.
Bloodlines 2 (Multiplatform) – A Missed Chance
I recently spent a notable chunk of time with Bloodlines 2, a game manny, including myself, had been eagerly anticipating.while I commend The Chinese Room for inheriting a troubled project and delivering something playable, the final product unluckily falls short.
It feels…empty. Imagine a beautifully decorated cake with no filling – visually appealing initially, but ultimately unsatisfying. The game’s presentation is strong, but the core adventure feels dated and lacks the depth needed to truly engage. It’s a shame, given the potential of the Bloodlines universe.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds (PS5) – A Surprisingly Strong Contender
I’m typically a Sonic platformer devotee, but Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has genuinely surprised me.Coming off the heels of disappointment with Mario Kart World, this racer offers a refreshing and enjoyable experience.
Here’s what stands out:
* Smart Track Design: The portal mechanics are well-implemented and add a unique twist.
* excellent Handling: The controls are tight and responsive, making for a satisfying driving experience (though the boat sections are admittedly a bit clunky).
* Thrilling Races: It delivers that exhilarating “overtake-on-the-final-corner” feeling that Mario Kart excels at.
Though, the tracks themselves are a bit generic. Racing through shopping malls and museums feels out of place. I crave the classic Sonic environments – Radical highway, Cyber Space, checkerboard patterns, grassy hills, and Robotnik’s inventions. Are these elements present in previous Sonic Racing titles, or am I simply longing for a more authentic Sonic experience?

Baby Steps (PC) – More Than Just a Rage Game
While I’ve been captivated by Double Fine’s Keeper (a truly magical game, deserving of its five-star rating), I’ve also found myself drawn back to Baby Steps. Don’t let the initial impression fool you; this isn’t just a rage game.
It’s a surprisingly affecting experience. Currently, I’m navigating the sand dunes, slowly mastering the art of the confident stride (and, thankfully, keeping my hat on!). Baby Steps is enormously satisfying, even unexpectedly moving.
If you’re looking for a unique challenge that goes beyond simple frustration, give it a try. And yes, it does feature…a lot of big dongs.
