Recent developments in Yemen have raised serious concerns after a high-level delegation from the Southern Transitional Council (STC) went missing following arrival in Riyadh for crucial negotiations. Reports indicate that over 50 members of the STC have been unreachable by family and colleagues since landing in the Saudi capital. Senior STC official Amr Al Bidh revealed in a video conference that the group was observed boarding a black bus at the Riyadh airport. This disappearance comes amidst escalating tensions and a history of complex relationships between the various factions involved in the Yemeni conflict.
The Disappearance and Accusations
The delegation, comprised of key figures including the minister of defense and several othre ministers and STC leaders, was invited too Riyadh by Saudi authorities. Though, interaction abruptly ceased after their arrival. Al Bidh stated, Until now, we have heard nothing from them. We have tried to contact them repeatedly and have received nothing.
This lack of contact has understandably sparked alarm and accusations.
The STC has directly accused Saudi Arabia of arbitrarily detaining the delegation and transporting them to an undisclosed location. A formal statement released by the council demanded their immediate release and placed obligation for their safety squarely on Saudi Arabia. Following his refusal, the Saudi-led coalition, established to combat Yemen’s Houthi rebels,conducted air strikes on his home province,resulting in the deaths of seven individuals,according to hospital reports.
The situation is further complex by conflicting reports regarding communication. A post originating from a delegation member’s X (formerly Twitter) account in Riyadh was dismissed by Al Bidh as not representing legitimate communication
