Legia Warsaw struggles and Financial Constraints Highlighted by Club Official
Recent comments from Legia Warsaw board member Michał Żewłakow shed light on the club’s current difficulties, tracing the downturn in form back to a controversial lineup decision in a UEFA Europa Conference League match against Samsunspor. He also addressed the limited activity during the winter transfer window, citing financial realities.
Żewłakow acknowledged that while the previous season, under previous management, saw qualification for European competitions, it wasn’t without its flaws. However,he pinpointed the match against Samsunspor as a turning point. “I think the first bad moment came in the Conference League with the match against Samsunspor. I think the squad for that match raised emotions and question marks. from that moment on, this team stopped playing. There were more problems than quality,” he stated. He further noted that the team has become burdened by a lack of wins, creating a negative cycle.
Żewłakow expressed concern over the performance of players brought in with high expectations. “In our team, there are players who have played at a higher level, and we are struggling a lot. Every next week is about giving ourselves hope. When there are no wins, it all becomes even more tiring.” He believes the arrival of coach Marek Papszun provides an chance to properly diagnose the team’s issues.
Regarding the quiet winter transfer window, where Legia only added Otto Hindrich and Rafał Adamski to the squad,Żewłakow explained the club’s financial limitations. “You have to keep in mind our financial possibilities. Most of those big transfers were made in the summer. As for the winter, the biggest financial budget went to strengthening the coaching staff. hence also the transfer of Rafał Adamski, who is certainly a complement in the eyes of many. Probably in the eyes of many it is a complement, but I look at it differently. These big transfers did not bring the expected results. Which players can we say something good about? Those who were theoretically required the least.” https://legia.net/news/michal-zewlakow-o-sytuacji-w-legii-i-transferach
