Ziggo viewers have recently had to watch more commercials before programs they watch with themselves media box have recorded. Those extra commercials cannot be fast-forwarded. The change only applies to programs from channels from RTL Netherlands.

The media boxes of recent years store TV recordings on Ziggo servers via the so-called CloudPVR, instead of on the device itself. The provider now adds extra advertisements to these cloud recordings. “At the start of the recording, viewers will see a short, non-flushable advertisement of a maximum of 1 minute. They can then watch the program as usual,” a Ziggo spokesperson told reporters. TotalTV.

When watching previous programs via the TV guide on the media box, commercials have long been impossible to fast forward. This restriction also applies to KPNCaiway and Unable to do so. According to Ziggo, viewers can skip the commercial breaks within the programs themselves during their own recordings.

Ziggo also performed last year personalized advertisements in. Viewers will therefore see adapted commercials based on, for example, their age or place of residence. Customers can turn this off in the settings of their media box.

Cancel TV subscription

On Thursday it became clear that Ziggo once again made a lot of money last quarter internet– and has lost TV subscribers. In the first three months of this year, 33,000 Ziggo customers received their television-subscription canceled. In addition, the number of fixed internet subscriptions fell by 26,600. VodafoneZiggo is suffering from, among other things, the increased competition optical fiber.
