Search Resumes for Man Swept Away in Klang River Flash Flood
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Authorities are continuing the intensive search for a man missing after a flash flood swept his four-wheel-drive vehicle into the Klang River near the Pintasan saloma (Saloma Link) on Monday. The vehicle itself was recovered Wednesday morning, approximately 1.5 kilometers downstream from were the incident occurred.
The swift current following heavy rainfall on November 17th led to the dangerous situation.Initial reports indicate the man was working on river enhancement projects when the surge happened.
Recovery & Ongoing Search Efforts
Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Sazalee Adam confirmed the vehicle’s recovery at 8:30 am Wednesday. Fortunately, the river level had receded nearly a meter, aiding in the discovery.
Currently, search and rescue (SAR) operations are focused on identifying potential current pathways. This will help pinpoint where the missing man may have been carried. The operation is scheduled to continue until 7 pm,leveraging favorable weather conditions.
Here’s a breakdown of the resources deployed:
* Divers: 21 divers are actively searching, divided into four distinct zones.
* Technology: Drones,small boats,and kayaks are being utilized to cover a nearly 20-kilometer stretch of the Klang River.
* Expanded Search Area: Authorities are prepared to extend the search beyond the Selangor border if necessary.
* Multi-agency Collaboration: The Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force, and police are working in full coordination.
Challenges & Investigative Leads
Initially, high river levels significantly hampered the search. However, calmer waters and improved visibility are now allowing divers to operate more safely and effectively.
Unfortunately, the victim’s phone, which was active on Tuesday, is no longer reachable. Despite this setback, investigators are diligently pursuing all available leads to narrow the search area.
Any unusual structures or obstacles within the river are being treated as potential hotspots for investigation. Divers are carefully examining these areas for any sign of the missing man.
Incident Details & Worker Safety
Earlier reports detailed a sudden surge of water at approximately 5:40 pm on Monday. A total of 13 workers were present at the site during the incident. Thankfully, 12 were successfully rescued.
The rescued workers included:
* Seven Indonesian nationals
* Four Bangladeshi nationals
* One local Malaysian worker
