In Greece, the government headed by Kyriakos Mitsotakis received a vote of confidence from the parliament in response to the motion of no confidence submitted by the opposition regarding the train accident that occurred in the Tempi region near the city of Larisa last year and resulted in the death of 57 people.

Following the allegations in the Greek press that the evidence necessary to shed light on those responsible for the Tempi train accident was deliberately destroyed within the framework of the responsibility of the government, the opposition party Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) submitted a motion of no confidence to the government with the support of the Radical Left Alliance (SYRIZA) and the New Left and Freedom Course parliamentary groups. A vote of confidence was held.

In the vote, 159 deputies of the 300-seat parliament gave a vote of confidence to the government. The government was supported by 158 MPs of New Democracy, as well as one independent MP.

CONSECUTIVE RESIGNATIONS

On the other hand, while discussions on the motion of no confidence continued in the parliament, State Minister Stavros Papastavru and Deputy State Minister Yannis Bratakos submitted their resignations to Mitsotakis.
In the statement made by the Prime Ministry, it was reported that Mitsotakis thanked Papastavru and Bratakos for their work and accepted their resignations.

According to the news in the Greek press, the reason for the resignations was the opposition’s criticism of the meeting of the minister and the deputy minister with the owner of the newspaper in which the allegations that were the subject of the motion of no confidence were included, at his home, on the day PASOK decided to submit the motion of no confidence.
