In the realm of infectious disease, the utilization of intravenous push (IVP) management of antimicrobials is experiencing a resurgence across various care settings. This is driven by its operational efficiency, reduced fluid requirements, and suitability for rapid or self-administered therapies.Though,careful consideration of medication-specific safety profiles and pharmacologic factors is paramount. Studies demonstrate that IVP administration yields comparable outcomes to traditional infusions while decreasing administration time and conserving essential supplies, notably crucial during fluid shortages. Nevertheless,pharmacists must meticulously evaluate infection severity and pharmacokinetic properties to ensure optimal therapeutic results.
Recent data presented at the 2025 American Heart Association Scientific Sessions underscores the pivotal role pharmacists play in assisting patients in achieving their low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) goals. This is achieved thru both virtual and in-person multidisciplinary care models, especially for individuals at high risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). A pharmacist-led virtual clinic demonstrated meaningful improvements in lipid management following acute coronary syndrome by optimizing therapy escalation and providing adherence support. Similarly, pharmacist-guided interventions within the Veterans Affairs system resulted in higher rates of LDL-C goal attainment and improved medication adherence compared to standard care. These findings highlight the benefits of integrating pharmacists into cardiovascular care-particularly within underserved communities-to enhance lipid control, strengthen adherence, and support more effective secondary prevention of ASCVD.
