Alex ‘Tattie’ Marshall and Paul Foster Lead Scotland’s Bowls Charge at Glasgow Commonwealth Games with 13 Medals Between Them

Alex ‘Tattie’ Marshall and Paul Foster have been named as key members of Scotland’s bowls team for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, bringing a combined total of 13 medals to the squad. The announcement was made by Bowls Scotland on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, confirming the host nation’s selections for the upcoming multi-sport event.

Marshall, a seven-time Commonwealth Games medallist, will partner with Foster in the men’s pairs event, a discipline they previously won together at Glasgow 2014. Speaking about his eighth selection, Marshall said: “It is always such an honour and privilege to be selected to represent Team Scotland at the Commonwealth Games. To have another opportunity to be a part of a home Games is also not lost on me, and I grasp that Paul and I will give it our very best to try and win a medal for the team.”

Foster, who is heading to his sixth Commonwealth Games, has accumulated six medals in his career. The duo’s experience forms a significant part of Scotland’s medal hopes for the bowls competitions, which will run from July 24 to August 2, 2026.

For the first time in Commonwealth Games history, all bowls and para bowls events will be held indoors, taking place at the SEC Centre in Glasgow. This change marks a notable shift from previous editions of the Games, where bowls were typically played outdoors.

The full Scotland bowls team includes Beth Riva and Caroline Brown in the women’s pairs, Garry Brown and Stuart Sloan in the men’s pairs (B6-B8 classification), Mary Wilson and Pauline Wilson in the women’s pairs (B6-B8), Mary Stevenson and Robert Barr in the mixed pairs (B2-B3), Jason Banks in the men’s singles, and Sophie McGrouther in the women’s singles. Sarah Jane Ewing and Jim Aitken are named as para directors for the B2-B3 classification events.

In the para bowls team, Pauline Wilson, Garry Brown, Robert Barr and his director Sarah Jane Ewing are aiming to defend their gold medals after winning at Birmingham 2022. Marshall’s niece, Beth Riva, who won mixed pairs gold at the 2025 World Championships with Jason Banks, joins Caroline Brown in the women’s pairs event.

Banks will make his Team Scotland debut in the men’s singles competition, adding a new element to the squad’s composition. The selection reflects a blend of experienced campaigners and emerging talent as Scotland prepares to compete on home soil.

With the Games set to begin in just over three months, the Scottish bowls team will now enter a final phase of preparation. Athletes will focus on refining their techniques and building team cohesion ahead of what promises to be a competitive tournament.

Fans wishing to follow the team’s progress can access official updates through the Commonwealth Games Federation website and the Bowls Scotland portal, which will provide schedules, results, and athlete profiles throughout the event.
