According to official police statements, officers responded to a report of a robbery on Mill Road at approximately 12:56 p.m. Investigators determined that the victim had traded a Volkswagen for a Honda owned by Reese Hendricks one day prior to the incident. The situation escalated when Reese Hendricks allegedly contacted the victim to request the vehicles be traded back, leading to a confrontation during the second exchange.

It is alleged that Eugene Hendricks then brandished a handgun, demanding the return of the Honda while both suspects reportedly removed property from the victim’s vehicle before fleeing.

Following an investigation, detectives apprehended Reese Hendricks at his Newark residence on July 1. He faces multiple felony charges, including two counts of attempted robbery, conspiracy, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, and wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony. He was subsequently committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $44,000 cash bail.

On July 8, detectives arrested Eugene Hendricks at his home in New Castle. He has been charged with two counts of attempted robbery, two counts of aggravated menacing, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, conspiracy, and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited. Like his co-defendant, he was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution, with his cash bail set at $197,000.
