Adeniyi Adeyemi Arrested in Osun State

Police have taken into custody Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-acclaimed director-general of the allegedly non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), following an intensive operation in Osun State. His arrest occurred shortly after Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench warrant for his detention, acting on an oral application made by police lawyer Mr. Wisdom Madaki.

The apprehension was carried out by a team from the Federal Investigation Department and the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Force Headquarters. According to security sources, the operation was led by Moses Lohor and successfully located Adeyemi in a village in Ijesaland. Prior to the police intervention, the Department of State Services (DSS) had trailed the defendant for five days. Osun State Police Command spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the arrest and stated that Adeyemi was en route to Abuja.

Adeyemi is currently facing an eight-count charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025, which includes allegations of forgery, fraud, and impersonation. The court has fixed September 30 for his arraignment. Despite the matter being listed as No. 12 on the court’s cause list, Adeyemi failed to appear for his scheduled session. While a lawyer, Mr. Genesis Francis, announced an appearance on his behalf, the prosecution counsel noted that the defendant had repeatedly failed to appear for his trial, stating, “My lord, this is the fifth time this case is coming up, and all the adjournments have been at the instance of the defendant.”

Solomon Dalung Questions Adeyemi’s Access to Vice President Kashim Shettima

The controversy surrounding Adeyemi and his claims of leading the PFIPC—sometimes referred to as the Presidential Economic Advisory Council/Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PEAC/PFIPC)—has dominated public discourse for more than two weeks. Former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, has publicly questioned how Adeyemi gained access to the State House and high-ranking government officials. In a post on X, Dalung shared a photograph of Adeyemi alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima and other senior figures, asking, “Should we also ask how the DG of the fake Federal Agency accessed the statehouse and enjoyed this level of proximity to the seat of power?”

Senate President Godswill Akpabio Blocks Senator Suleiman Kawu’s Probe Motion

The political implications of the case reached the Senate, which, for the second time, rejected a motion seeking an independent legislative investigation into the matter. Senator Suleiman Kawu, who had previously sought to raise the issue under matters of urgent public importance, presented the request to the upper chamber. Senate President Godswill Akpabio declined the motion, arguing that the matter is currently sub judice because it is before a court. Akpabio further noted that President Bola Tinubu has already directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the allegations within 30 days.

“In my view, the issue has been overtaken by events as the culprit has been charged to court. It is now sub judice to attempt to go into it again. Mr President has already directed an investigation. If we go into it now, we will probably be jumping the gun,” Akpabio stated. Despite the Senate leadership’s position, Senator Kawu maintained that the National Assembly retains a constitutional responsibility to exercise its own oversight functions, regardless of the actions taken by the executive branch.
