Oleksandr Vilkul, the head of Kryvyi Rih’s military administration, described the event as a dark night and warned that the death toll might rise as emergency workers clear debris. An additional six people were killed across the regions of Dnipropetrovsk and Poltava, according to emergency reports cited by Reuters.

The aerial assault reached deep into western Ukraine, damaging residential buildings in Lviv according to Mayor Andriy Sadovyi. The scale of the strikes prompted Poland, a NATO and European Union member bordering Ukraine, to protectively scramble fighter jets and an early warning aircraft to secure its airspace, its armed forces stated on X. Polish police in the Lublin region near the Ukrainian border also reported receiving a notification regarding a loud bang in Bilgoraj county, where officers discovered a crater and scattered debris from an unidentified object in a field.

The attacks followed warnings from Zelenskyy, who stated that Moscow had prepared the massive assault days in advance. Returning from the United States, Zelenskyy renewed his appeals to international partners for additional air defence missiles. According to Al Jazeera, Zelenskyy stated during his Washington visit that President Donald Trump had agreed to give Ukraine licences to manufacture Patriot missiles. However, Ukrainian forces face an acute shortage of PAC-3 interceptor missiles, a deficit that has intensified since the US-led war on Iran began in February. Russia’s Ministry of Defence maintained that its forces targeted military facilities across Ukraine—ranging from Kyiv to Lviv and Dnipropetrovsk—alongside three cargo ships near Odesa that Moscow accused of carrying weapons.

While Ukrainian cities absorbed heavy bombardments, cross-border drone activity struck logistics sites inside Russia. A warehouse belonging to Russian online retailer Wildberries caught fire in the western city of Penza following a Ukrainian drone attack, regional governor Oleg Melnichenko reported. The incident injured one person and forced the evacuation of approximately 200 individuals.

According to Reuters, ongoing Ukrainian drone strikes targeting energy infrastructure and warehouses have damaged nearly a dozen Wildberries storage sites recently, destroying roughly 10% of the company’s storage capacity and compounding fuel crisis pressures across Russia.
