The traditional blessing of the motorcycles takes place on Thursday in Jette, Ascension Day, in a packed Saint-Pierre church. Funds were raised on this occasion for police officers injured or killed in the line of duty.

Motorcycle brigades from all police zones in the country were present during this blessing as were several local sections of motorcycle clubs from the four corners of the country to pay tribute to members of the police killed or injured in the scope of their function. A tribute was thus paid in particular to the Brussels police officer Thomas Monjoie, stabbed to death on November 10, 2022 in Schaerbeek.

The initiative, which has existed for 20 years, carries a message of solidarity, underlined priest Dirk Vannetelbosch, for whom it is important to pay tribute to the police officers every year. “All you have to do is be involved in an accident, or get stabbed during a check,” explains the man nicknamed the “padre”. “Sometimes people say: ‘they chose it’, but you don’t choose something like that,” he concluded, referring to the risks of being a police officer.
