The Antwerp judicial police reviewed the file and an investigating judge was reappointed. In 2020, the latter asked the National Institute of Forensic and Criminology (INCC) to re-examine the DNA aspect of the investigation. Scientific developments have made it possible to identify the genetic profile of a single person, a man, on a glove left at the crime scene.

Traces of the suspect were finally found in Italy, where the fifty-year-old was arrested on August 21. His arrest warrant was extended for the second time by the Antwerp council chamber, the prosecution said on Tuesday.
