The cat, nicknamed Jingudiao, caused 100,000 yuan ($14,000) in damage.

The animal was unharmed, and its owner, Dandan, changed the name of her Douyin account to “Sichuan’s Coolest Cat” and is now making the pet “work” during live broadcasts to compensate for the damage.

The owner’s playful reaction to the accident and the cat’s cute appearance have garnered 8 million views on the Douyin page.

April 4 Dandan received a call from property management staff to report that her home was on fire.

When she returned home, she discovered that her cat had started the fire, burning the entire first floor of the attic.

It turned out that Jingudiao was playing in the kitchen and accidentally touched the touch panel of the induction cooktop, turning it on.

Firefighters found a golden British shorthair hiding in an upstairs cupboard, covered in ash but unharmed.

In other days, Dandan joked that she was forcing him to “pay off his debt” on live TV shows and even called him an “arsonist”.

Dandan also talked to the fireman and asked him to teach the cat about fire safety.

The firefighter said it was the first time he had been asked to train a cat, and joked that he had tried to get the fire dog interested in safety, but had no luck.

April 13 Dandan posted an apology letter online, signed with her fingerprint and Jinggujiao’s paw print.

She felt guilty for not turning off the stove and vowed to pay attention to fire safety in the future, urging others to do the same.

“I just wanted to make dinner for my mom,” wrote one user who went by the name Jingudiao.

“Thank you. I just turned off the electric stove. I have a naughty cat that walks everywhere in my apartment,” said another person.

“My cat keeps flushing the toilet so I’m forced to pay huge water bills,” added a third.
