Adobe has officially announced a new integration that brings Acrobat-powered PDF experiences directly to WhatsApp Web and the WhatsApp Windows app. The integration, which is now available globally, allows users to preview, open, review, annotate, and edit PDF documents without needing to download files, leave the conversation, or switch between different applications. This development aims to streamline document-heavy workflows for both individuals and businesses that rely on WhatsApp to exchange invoices, contracts, design proofs, price lists, and other essential forms.

The integration enables a seamless document experience within the chat interface. When a PDF is shared, recipients can open the full document directly inside the conversation window. The functionality supports full-screen viewing, scrolling, and zooming, allowing users to read the entire file without saving it to their computers first. According to Adobe, the Acrobat technology preserves the document’s original layout and formatting during these previews, which is particularly useful for files where altered formatting or misplaced text could cause confusion.
Security remains a priority for the integration. Documents shared through WhatsApp continue to be protected by the platform’s end-to-end encryption, meaning only the intended chat participants can access the files. Furthermore, the integration supports password-protected PDFs, ensuring that only authorized recipients with the correct credentials can open them.
Markup and Annotation Tools
The initial set of tools introduced with this update focuses on lightweight review and feedback. Users can now utilize built-in PDF markup tools to highlight text, underline specific passages, strike through lines, and draw or annotate documents directly within the chat thread. These features allow users to flag a clause for checking, point to specific details, or remove outdated lines without interrupting the ongoing exchange. This functionality is intended to remove several steps from workflows for small businesses, contractors, and remote employees who already use WhatsApp to communicate with customers and suppliers.
Advanced Editing and AI Features
For users requiring more powerful capabilities, the integration includes an Edit in Acrobat
option. Selecting this allows users to move a file into Adobe’s software to perform advanced tasks, including editing PDF content, organizing pages, signing PDFs, and applying advanced password protection. Once the revisions are complete, the updated PDF can be shared back to the same WhatsApp conversation.
Acrobat subscribers gain additional utility through the Acrobat AI Assistant. This tool allows users to summarize documents, ask questions about the content of the file, and identify key information. Both the advanced editing features and the Acrobat AI Assistant require an active Acrobat subscription.

The move connects Adobe’s document software with one of the world’s largest messaging platforms. WhatsApp reports that it currently has three billion users.
