Herman Brusselmans seems like a new man since the birth of his son Roman. The writer stopped smoking (at least for a while), put the scissors in his long hair and now also has new glasses. The latter was already fifteen years ago.

Last summer, Herman Brusselmans lost his wild hair, literally, after 37 years. His girlfriend Lena cut off his ponytail in their courtyard in Ghent, his hairdresser Christine did the rest. About a year later, his old glasses also had to die.

Brusselmans was invited by Porteman optics in Ypres to choose a new frame and the writer happily accepted. “I wore my previous glasses for fifteen years,” he says. “It was time for a new one.”

With the help of girlfriend Lena, son Roman and Porteman’s opticians, Brusselmans chose glasses from Berlin’s Mykita and motorcycle sunglasses from Oakley Holbrook. “I am very satisfied,” says the writer. “Porteman’s opticians provide extremely good service. They are very accommodating and polite.”

“We really appreciate that Herman made the effort to get this far,” responds Ypres optician Jeroen Porteman. “This is a boost for our entire team. It was quite a challenge to give such an iconic glasses wearer a makeover. We experience him as a very warm person, although we are a bit afraid of appearing in his next book.”

Brusselmans used to go to Hulpiau optics in the Voldersstraat in Ghent for his glasses, but next time he will definitely go back to Ypres. “In fifteen years,” he says. “If it is necessary to replace it again.”
