Washington has publicly voiced its opposition to Israel’s invasion of Rafah, which is believed to host some 1.2 million Palestinians seeking refuge from Israeli bombardment in Gaza.

Israel is confident that high officials Hamas hiding underground in Rafah, which is located along the border with Egypt.

The Israeli military reportedly sent maps of the area to humanitarian workers this week, POLITICO reported.

Earlier, the White House said on Friday that it had not seen a comprehensive plan regarding Israel’s plans for an invasion of Rafah.

Israel also reportedly said it would begin an invasion of Rafah “soon” without giving an exact date. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his army would continue with the invasion with or without a ceasefire agreement.

The US, along with Egypt and Qatar, have worked hard to reach a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, which would also free hostages held by Hamas.
