Carrie Patel, who was the designer responsible for the narrative of The Outer Worlds, appeared on PC Gamer’s talk, and revealed here that they removed an ending from Obsidian Entertainment’s game that tended to have an… extremely adult theme.

We haven’t even heard of this story yet, so what Patel said was new to everyone, and he went into great detail about what happened around the ‘non-Fallout’: ‘I worked on the secret ending of The Outer Worlds with Dan McPhee, who was the project’s other narrative designer. Quite late in development, I wrote the text for the terminal in President Rockwell’s office, which you run into about two-thirds of the way through the game. All the terminals had some extra entries that said something about the character, the world, and just filled things out. We had been working on this game for a while at that point, and you know, it’s all about capitalism and brands. I remember thinking that these corporate guys love their brands so much, what if they were literally excited about it?.

So I wrote this post on President Rockwell’s terminal, which was blocked behind a skill check or two, so I had to work for it. But it was a transcript of the weekly dom [domináns, BDSM…] of being with a Moon Man impersonator. It was a lot of fun to write because it was full of puns, business-speak like “maximize growth vectors” and “end-to-end optimization”. You even get a bark from one of the guards when you enter the office. You go through a security checkpoint, and if you walk past it with a Moon Man helmet on your head – I don’t know if they ever picked it up, but there was a [megírt] barking at one point when he says “I think it’s Thursday”.

I remember talking to Dan because Dan wrote the showdown at the very end of the game. He also wrote the events of Tartarus Prison. And I said that this could not be recalled? [Mert] he was still in it at the time. So we looked at it together and figured out that if you’re facing President Rockwell at the end of the game and you’re wearing a Moon Man helmet, you’re going to go a little weak in the knees. And if you could read that terminal, you could really take control of the situation: “Moon Man is not asking, Charles. Moon Man will tell.” You could practically talk him into one of the cryopods (‘Get into position, Charles’) and use dialogue to defeat him and get him out of the way of the ending you wanted,” Patel said.

For this reason, the question can be justified: why was it cut from the game? According to Patel, this ending was too close to be called sexually heated and was a cause for concern. This is why Obsidian ultimately decided to leave him out of The Outer Worlds. But since then, Baldur’s Gate 3 has done much bolder things, so the already announced The Outer Worlds 2 can be closer to this particular 18 ring!
