“The day before yesterday I spoke to Hoeneß on the phone”

FC Bayern is still looking for a new coach. Felix Magath also gets involved in the STAHLWERK one-two – and reveals that he recently even spoke to Uli Hoeneß.

Is it all just a joke – or is it something more? Iconic trainer Felix Magath joined FC Bayern brought into play – and also reported on a conversation with club patron Uli Hoeneß.

“I don’t have to be in the ring for anything. The day before yesterday I spoke to Uli Hoeneß on the phone and told him: ‘Look out, I live in Munich, I don’t have any moving costs,'” said Magath in his usual dry tone during the STAHLWERK one-two on SPORT1.

His children are already studying, “so I no longer need great private schools for my children. That would be an argument for me. In this respect, I think he (Hoeneß; editor’s note) is now thinking about it,” the 70-year-old continued – and earned a lot of laughs from the group.

Hoeneß conversation? “Of course it’s true.”

But how humorous were Magath’s words really to be understood? Doppelpass moderator Florian König wanted to know exactly and later asked specifically: “Did this phone call take place – and what was really the content?”

Magath laughed briefly before explaining: “When I say I spoke to Uli Hoeneß on the phone, that’s of course true. The content was as described: I told him my advantages, I don’t only have disadvantages.”

Magath coached Bayern from the summer of 2004 to January 2007 and won the championship and cup double twice. He was most recently active as an interim coach at Hertha BSC and saved the Old Lady from relegation in 2022.

The German record champions are feverishly looking for a new coach. The possible candidates recently said Ralf Rangnick and Roger Schmidt ab.
