Latvian biathlete Baiba Bendika commented on the mixed pairs relay at the world championship in a conversation with Latvian Television.

It has already been announced that Andrejs Rastorgujev and Bendika took eighth place in the pairs relay at the Nove Mesto WC Biathlon on Thursday. Eighth place is the best achievement of Latvian biathletes in this discipline.

“However, it’s the world championships and it’s eighth place. Of course, we ourselves and everyone expected more, but the mixed pairs relay is very tense never and mistakes are not forgiven. Many teams started and many can fight for a high result,” Bendika admitted. “Maybe it’s not as good as we wanted, because it’s still TOP 8, but it’s not that bad either.”

Bendika also expressed her opinion about the financial situation of the Latvian Biathlon Federation (LBF). “Of course, we don’t think about it when we go to the races, but it’s sad that a sport like biathlon, which is one of the most popular sports in Latvia, is not considered a priority sport. An absurd system has been created to determine this, but we continue to fight and show young athletes that we must continue to fight.”
