Bergerac reboot Lands U.S. Distribution Deal with PBS
The reboot of the classic detective series Bergerac has secured a distribution deal with PBS in the United States, following its success in the UK and other international markets.
The revival, which premiered in 2024, garnered 2.4 million viewers across UK channels U and U&DRAMA, becoming UKTV’s highest-rating show in 2024. A second season is slated for release in early 2025.
Banijay Rights negotiated the deal, with Matt Creasey, Vice President of Sales, Co-Productions and Acquisitions, stating, “Stylish, enthralling and an edge-of-your-seat detective drama, ‘Bergerac’ is destined to be a huge draw for U.S. audiences, so we couldn’t be more pleased with this deal. Featuring Jim Bergerac’s iconic Triumph Roadster car and set against the stunning backdrop of Jersey, this is a series that continues to generate worldwide attention as we head into next week’s london TV Screenings.”
The reboot features a new cast alongside the familiar setting. John Molony stars as the titular detective, with Zoë Wanamaker as Charlie Hungerford, Philip glenister as Arthur Wakefield, Chloé Sweet Love as Kim Bergerac, Robert Gilbert as Barney Crozier, Lesley Sharp as Monica Barton, and Adrian Edmondson as Nigel.
The writing team includes Toby Whithouse (The Red King, Being Human), Brian Fillis (Trust, Sirens), Catherine Tregenna (The One That Got Away, Three Pines), Polly Buckle (Love Rat, A Discovery of Witches), Emilie Robson (War, The Case), and Ashley Sanders and Faebian Averies, who joined for the second series.

Prior to the PBS deal, Bergerac has been sold to broadcasters in Japan (WOWOW), Netherlands (NPO), Belgium (VRT), Sweden (SVT), Finland (YLE), Norway (NRK), Denmark (DR), Poland (BBC First), New Zealand (TVNZ), and Australia (ABC).
