Paju Frontier FC Mounted 89 Minutes of Resistance Against K League 1 Opposition
For Paju Frontier FC, the fixture represented their first official match against a K League 1 club since turning professional. Paju arrived at the Bucheon Sports Complex having advanced past FC Gangneung in a 3-2 comeback victory during the previous round. Paju manager Gerard Nuss deployed a young lineup featuring numerous under-22 players across the backline and midfield.
Paju frustrated their top-tier opponents for the majority of the evening. In the 17th minute, Lee Je-ho struck the goalpost, and in the 35th minute of the second half, Bucheon goalkeeper Kim Hyun-yeop stopped a header from Lee Dae-gwang. Paju maintained a scoreless stalemate until the closing moments of regulation.

Late Stoppage-Time Goals Secured Bucheon’s Advancement
The deadlock broke in the 44th minute of the second half when Kim Seung-bin scored the opening goal for Bucheon. Paju responded by pushing center backs forward into attack to pursue an equalizer, a tactical risk that left their defense exposed. Bucheon capitalized during stoppage time, netting two additional goals to secure a 3-0 victory and eliminate Paju from the tournament.
Reflecting on the final scoreline, Manager Nuss pointed to the inherent disparity between established top-flight clubs and newly promoted sides. The difference between us and Bucheon is quality,
Nuss said. It’s the difference between K1 and a newly promoted K2 team. That’s natural.
Despite the elimination, Nuss highlighted the performance of goalkeeper Kim Min-seung, who recorded multiple saves before the late goals and is set to participate in the upcoming Asian Games.
