“Dawson’s Creek” Cast Reunites for Charity Reading, Reflects on Shocking Pilot Storyline
A recent live reading of the “Dawson’s Creek” pilot episode served as a powerful fundraiser for F Cancer, sparked by James Van Der Beek‘s recent Stage 3 colorectal cancer diagnosis. The event brought together many of the show’s original stars for a nostalgic and impactful evening.

The initial episode included a storyline where Pacey Witter, a 15-year-old student, becomes involved wiht Tamara Jacobs, his 36-year-old English teacher. Philipps highlighted how culturally unacceptable such a plotline would be today.
During the reading, Philipps herself took on the role of Tamara Jacobs, originally played by Leann Hunley. It’s a role that, ironically, wasn’t originally intended for her.
Philipps explained that Kevin Williamson, the show’s creator, didn’t write the character of Audrey, and was already involved with other projects when the show moved into its college years. Her character was added later, creating a unique full-circle moment.
After the reading, Philipps playfully remarked to Williamson that he unknowingly wrote a part for her, one she was only the right age to play two decades later.

Even though Van Der Beek unfortunately had to withdraw from the event due to illness, the reunion still brought together a significant portion of the original cast.
