South Carolina Forward Chloe Kitts Suffers Torn ACL, Will Miss Upcoming Season
A critically important blow has struck the South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball program. Senior forward Chloe Kitts sustained a torn ACL in her right knee and will be sidelined for the 2025-2026 season, the university announced Monday. She is scheduled to undergo surgery later this week.
Kitts,a key contributor to the Gamecocks’ recent success, started 38 games last season. she averaged 10.2 points and 7.7 rebounds per game, showcasing her versatility and impact on both ends of the court.
Her performance earned her MVP honors at the SEC tournament and the Birmingham Regional. As a sophomore, she also proved her value, starting 31 games and averaging 9.1 points and 5.9 rebounds.
This injury comes at a critical juncture for Kitts, who was widely projected as a potential first-round pick in the upcoming WNBA draft. She now faces a decision: enter the draft and begin her professional career, or utilize an additional year of eligibility and return to college after recovery.
Head coach Dawn Staley expressed deep concern for Kitts, emphasizing the hard work she’s put in. “We hate this first for Chloe, who has worked incredibly hard to become the best version of herself on the court this season,” Staley stated.
Though, staley remains confident in the team’s ability to overcome this setback. She believes her players are capable of stepping up and filling the void left by kitts’ absence.
Moreover, Staley anticipates kitts will continue to contribute to the team’s success from the sidelines. Her competitive spirit and leadership will undoubtedly be felt, even while she’s unable to play.
Kitts herself addressed the news via Instagram, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support. “Thank you to everyone who has reached out with love and support,” she wrote.
She acknowledged the unexpected nature of the injury but affirmed her faith and commitment to her team. “While this isn’t how I expected my senior season would go, I’m trusting God’s timing and purpose,” Kitts continued. “I’ll continue to lead, support and push my team from the sidelines. We have big things ahead!”
this injury presents a challenge for the Gamecocks, who are aiming to build on their 2024 national championship and avenge last year’s NCAA final loss to UConn. Though, with a strong roster and a persistent coaching staff, thay are poised to remain a formidable force in women’s college basketball.
