ChristianaCare Invests $92.3 Million in New Middletown Health Center, Expanding Access to Extensive Care
Middletown, Delaware – ChristianaCare has commenced construction on a state-of-the-art Health Center in Middletown, Delaware, representing a significant $92.3 million investment in the health and well-being of southern New Castle County and northern Kent County residents. The 87,000-square-foot facility, slated to open in Spring 2027, underscores ChristianaCare’s commitment to accessible, affordable, and advanced healthcare services.
This project is a cornerstone of ChristianaCare’s larger, $865 million investment plan across delaware over the next three years, designed to proactively address evolving community health needs and strengthen the state’s healthcare infrastructure. The new center will not only expand service offerings but also generate over 70 new full-time employment opportunities, bolstering the local economy.

The Health Center at Middletown will consolidate a wide range of essential medical services under one roof, offering a patient-centered approach to wellness. Key services will include:

Building on a Legacy of Community Partnership
ChristianaCare’s presence in Middletown dates back to 2009 with the acquisition of a 108-acre parcel. The existing freestanding emergency department, opened in 2012, has consistently exceeded expectations, serving over 32,000 patient visits last year - more than double its initial projections.

The Delaware Health Resources Board recently approved the Certificate of Public Review for the health center expansion on September 26th, paving the way for this vital project. While current plans do not include a hospital at the site,the campus is designed to accommodate future expansion,ensuring ChristianaCare can continue to meet the evolving healthcare needs of the community for years to come.
