The findings underscored the urgent need for a proactive, real-time solution.
Why This Matters: The Public Demand for Safer Online Spaces
The urgency of this work is further validated by recent public opinion data. A groundbreaking global survey conducted by Oxford University, published in February 2025 (https://www.ox.ac.uk/news/2025-02-12-majority-support-moderation-social-media-platforms-global-survey-shows), surveyed 13,500 individuals aged 16-69 and found a clear preference for restricted harmful content – including physical threats and defamation – over unfettered freedom of expression. this demonstrates a widespread desire for safer online spaces, a desire C.H.A.S.E. is directly addressing. Users aren’t simply demanding more freedom; they’re demanding safe freedom.
Introducing C.H.A.S.E.: An AI-Powered Solution for Real-Time Moderation
At the heart of the C.H.A.S.E. project is the advancement of a cutting-edge, AI-powered moderation tool. This isn’t a ‘set it and forget it’ solution. developed through a collaborative co-creation workshop in July 2025 with media houses across participating countries, the tool is designed to:
* Detect: Utilize advanced machine learning algorithms to identify hate speech in real-time.
* Moderate: Classify content based on severity and context, enabling nuanced moderation decisions.
* Report: facilitate efficient reporting of illegal content to relevant authorities.
Crucially, the tool is built with a deep respect for freedom of expression and adherence to privacy laws. From pilot to Implementation: A Phased Rollout
Starting October 1st,2025,partner media outlets across several EU countries will begin rigorously testing the C.H.A.S.E. tool in live environments.This real-world testing phase is critical to ensuring the tool is practical, user-kind, and demonstrably effective.
