FC Barcelona lost the semi-final first leg of the women’s premier class 0-1 against Chelsea FC. The defending champions had field advantages, but mostly remained too harmless.

The first half hour clearly belonged to the Catalans, but they hardly had any clear chances. Chelsea initially waited for a counterattack, but became more active themselves in the final quarter of an hour of the first half. And promptly took the lead: In the end, Nüsken, with his back to the goal, skillfully passed it across to Cuthbert, who shot half-high into the goal to take the lead at the break (40th).

After the break, Barcelona dominated the game again – and were awarded a penalty early in the second half because Buchanan blocked a shot from the edge of the penalty area with his outstretched hand. However, due to a narrow offside position by Salma Paralluelo, the referee team led by French referee Stephanie Frappart reversed the decision after a VAR and video check (53′).

Minute 100: Putellas narrowly misses

As the game progressed, the Spaniards tried to increase the pressure, but they barely managed to get any clear shots against the Chelsea women, who defended very consistently and disciplinedly throughout the game, especially in the defensive center. It was only immediately before the final whistle that Putellas missed again from five meters (90+10), but it remained a narrow success for the guests.

The second leg in London will take place on Saturday in a week’s time (April 27th, 6:30 p.m.).
