Your Weekend Guide to events in the DMV: November 29 - December 1, 2024
Looking for exciting ways to spend your weekend? The Washington, D.C. metropolitan area is brimming with options, from concerts and holiday festivities to sporting events and unique experiences. Here’s a curated guide to help you make the most of it, covering both Maryland and Virginia.
Music & Entertainment
Several fantastic musical performances are scheduled this weekend. You can catch Earl Sweatshirt at The Fillmore Silver Spring on Saturday. Alternatively, experience a nostalgic trip with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, also performing at The Fillmore Silver Spring on Sunday.
For a lighter mood, consider a free outdoor movie screening of the holiday classic “elf” at National Harbor on Sunday afternoon. I’ve found that these community events are a splendid way to embrace the season.
Sports action
football fans, rejoice! You can cheer on the Commanders as they take on the Broncos at Northwest Stadium on Sunday evening. It’s a prime-time matchup you won’t want to miss.
Holiday Magic in Virginia
Virginia is truly shining with festive events. here’s a breakdown of what’s happening:
* Bull Run Festival of Lights (Daily through Jan. 4): Located in Centreville, this dazzling display is a holiday tradition. Tickets are $32.45, but keep an eye out for promo codes to save $5-$10.
* Winter Lantern Festival (Opens Thursday): Immerse yourself in a world of illuminated art at tysons. Tickets range from $18.99 to $25.99.
* Reston Holiday Parade & Tree Lighting (Friday): Enjoy a festive parade at 11 a.m., followed by a beautiful tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. in Reston Town Center. Best of all, it’s free!

* Arlington/Falls Church Small Business Weekend (Saturday & Sunday): Explore the vibrant small business scene in Arlington and Falls Church. Participation is free, making it a great way to discover local gems.
Supporting Local Businesses
I always encourage supporting local businesses, especially during the holiday season. Plaid Friday and the Arlington/Falls Church Small Business Weekend are perfect opportunities to do just that. here’s what works best: plan your route, bring cash, and enjoy the unique offerings of these communities.
