Far from the eyes of the media, Marcel Ciolacu and Nicolae Ciucă returned to better feelings and discussed unofficially, on Sunday, about the future of the government and the Coalition. Political sources told HotNews.ro that PSD and PNL leaders resumed negotiations on merging the European parliamentary and local elections. We remind you that last week the talks in the Coalition were at a complete standstill due to the presidential candidacy.

“The two presidents talked during the Sunday. There were separate meetings in the parties and the elements of the legislation regarding possible mergers are being checked at a technical level”, official sources claim.
“By the way, after the total deadlock last week when the PSD requested the support of the liberals for the PSD presidential candidate, the leaders of the Coalition resumed their negotiations, which shows the possibility that they could reach a joint decision, claim sources from both parties for Hotnews.ro.
At the same time, the new discussions between the social democrats and liberals could lead to an agreement on combining the local elections with the European parliamentary ones. As for how the two parties will participate in the parliamentary and presidential elections: electoral alliance or joint lists would be determined after June 9.
A decision is expected during the week, more precisely on Wednesday when a meeting of the Coalition is scheduled. If the leaders of the PSD and the PNL agree on the merging of local and European parliaments, the Government could issue an emergency ordinance to amend the Administrative Code so as to amend the law and create the legal framework for the mayors who will be elected on June 9.
