  • Amazon is dedicating a documentary to tennis star Roger Federer.

  • This will be published around Wimbledon.

  • The 42-year-old himself speaks of a “hard snapshot”.

Many Roger Federer fans will be rubbing their fingers. The 20-time Grand Slam winner is always in the media – most recently he competed with former ski star Lindsey Vonn – but the fans can’t get enough of the maestro.

That’s why it’s not surprising that they’re now being made tasty for the first time. Amazon announced that it would broadcast a documentary about the 42-year-old around the major tournament in Wimbledon (from July 1st to 14th). It’s about Federer’s last days as a professional. This also includes his tearful farewell at the Laver Cup 2022.

Mirka Federer also speaks

The documentary is directed by Asif Kapadia, who also made a documentary about Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna. Originally it was supposed to be a home video for Federer. But after the makers viewed the footage, it was decided to make a full-fledged documentary out of it. It will also feature an interview with Federer’s wife Mirka, the first in more than a decade.

“It’s a snapshot of my life during these twelve days, which is pretty hard and interesting,” Federer told media company Bloomberg about the documentary. And further: “I never let anyone into my house. It’s a very personal film.” This sheds light on another level of the tennis tour – how good the camaraderie is on the tour. “Yes, there are rivalries here, but off the pitch there are friendships and respect.”
