Journey Back in Time This holiday Season: the U.S. Botanic garden’s “Dino-Mite!” Season’s Greenings
The U.S. Botanic Garden is offering a uniquely festive experiance this year, blending holiday cheer with a prehistoric twist. Prepare to step back in time with “Dino-Mite!,” the 2025-2026 “Season’s greenings” exhibit. It’s a captivating display that combines classic botanic traditions with the wonder of the Cretaceous period.
When Can You Explore the Holiday Magic?
The Conservatory welcomes visitors daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The outdoor gardens are accessible from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.each day.Terrace and Bartholdi Gardens remain open from dawn until dusk.
Notably, the Garden will be closed only on Christmas Day, December 25th.However, it will be open on all other holidays. For an extra dose of enchantment, select Tuesday and Thursday evenings in December and January feature extended hours until 8 p.m. These evenings also include live seasonal music, enhancing your exploration.

What Awaits You at “Dino-Mite!”?
Imagine spotting a dinosaur grazing near the U.S. Capitol as you ride the Metrobus.This year’s theme brings dinosaurs,prehistoric animals,and ancient plants together with the garden’s beloved model train show. It’s a truly immersive experience.
Outside, miniature and life-size dinosaur displays will accompany the winding model trains. Keep an eye out for iconic creatures like the T. rex and Velociraptor.Beyond the dinosaurs, you’ll discover plants that thrived during prehistoric times. These include cycads, ferns, and magnolias.
For a deeper dive into ancient flora, visit the Primeval Garden within the Conservatory. It’s a dedicated space showcasing these fascinating botanical relics.
Inside the Conservatory,thousands of vibrant poinsettias create a festive atmosphere. The exhibit also features meticulously crafted plant-based replicas of famous D.C.landmarks. Expect to see the Martin Luther king, Jr. Memorial, the Washington Monument, and the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Don’t miss the miniature National Gallery of Art East Wing.gallery employees cleverly recreated the building, complete with a tiny version of its iconic blue rooster-all made from plant parts!
