VFB Stuttgart won at home against FC Bayern for the first time in almost 17 years and spoiled the Munich team’s dress rehearsal for the showdown with Real Madrid. Stuttgart won 3-1 on Saturday (May 4th, 2024) and reduced the gap to second-placed Munich to two points.

After the win against the record champions, Stuttgart have 67 points in their account after 32 match days and can safely plan for the Champions League. The Munich team, where Thomas Tuchel rested six regular players compared to the first leg at Real Madrid, suffered a setback before the second leg against Real next Wednesday.

Late winning goals for Stuttgart

Leonidas Stergiou gave VfB the lead in a balanced first half after 29 minutes with a deliberate lob over national goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Harry Kane quickly equalized with a penalty kick (35th).

When it looked like a comfortable draw in the second half after a lot of summer football, Woo-Yeong Jeong (83′) headed VfB into the lead again. Silas Katompa Mvumpa made the final decision in stoppage time (90+3).
