The East Texas A&M University men’s basketball team suffered an 81-70 loss to the Houston christian Huskies on Saturday, January 18th, at Sharp Gym.Despite a challenging first half where they trailed by as many as 12 points, the Lions fought to stay within striking distance. Though,the Huskies proved too strong,securing their third home win against ETAM in the last four seasons.
This defeat marks the Lions’ second consecutive loss, bringing their overall season record to 7-12 and their Southland Conference record to 2-7. The Houston Christian Huskies now stand at 6-12 with a 2-7 record in conference play.
ETAM’s men’s basketball team will continue their road trip with a matchup against the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) on monday evening, with tip-off scheduled for 5:00 PM in San Antonio, Texas.
Women’s Basketball: Late Run Seals Victory for Houston Christian
The East Texas A&M University women’s basketball team also faced the Houston Christian Huskies on saturday, ultimately falling 65-52. The Lions started the game impressively, achieving a 13-3 lead within the first four minutes, fueled by accurate shooting. However, the Huskies responded effectively, limiting ETAM to just two points for the remainder of the first quarter and narrowing the gap to five points. A dominant 15-1 run by the Huskies in the closing moments of the game secured their victory.
The loss continues a challenging stretch for the Lions, who will next travel to Lamar University for a game on Thursday, with a 6:00 PM tip-off.
Track and Field: Strong Start to Season at Owen Hewett Invitational
East Texas A&M University’s track and field teams kicked off their 2025-26 season with a accomplished showing at the Owen Hewett Invitational held at the Mosier Indoor Facility on Friday. The Lions achieved four event wins and recorded a top-10 national mark, signaling a strong start to the season.
This season is especially meaningful for ETAM as it marks the first year the program is eligible for NCAA Championships as a Division I institution.
