EDP goes into ex-dividend this Monday, which is penalizing the listed company’s trading. Although it is not a real retreat, it ends up, however, placing the main Portuguese index in negative territory.

It’s a start to the week on the wrong foot. This morning, the Lisbon stock exchange bucked the trend of gains seen in Europe and opened Monday’s session in the red. The PSI loses 0.13% to 6,640.23 points, despite having ten stocks rising, only four falling and two unchanged.

Penalizing the main Portuguese index is EDP, which falls 3.98%. However, it is not a real drop as it is due to the fact that the electricity company goes into ex-dividend today. EDP will distribute the dividend for the 2023 financial year on May 8th. Therefore, from today onwards, the electric company’s shares trade without the right to dividend – which has a gross value of 0.195 euros per share.

CTT is also in the red, falling 1.12%, as well as Altri (-0.39%) and REN (-0.22%). Conversely, leading the table is Galp Energia, which totals 1.33%, at a time when oil is appreciating in the main international markets. Still, the advance of what is currently the most valuable company in the Portuguese market is not enough to put the PSI in the green.

The earnings podium is made up of Corticeira Amorim (0.94%) and Mota-Engil (0.74%). Also gaining value are BCP (0.34%), Navigator (0.33%), Jerónimo Martins (0.26%), Semapa (0.26%), EDP Renováveis (0.22%) , Greenvolt (0.12%) and Sonae (0.11%).
