Helldivers 2, day four and quite possibly the last? First off, a really quick summary – after notice of obligation for PC gamers to connect Steam and PlayStation Network accounts with Arrowhead developers sided with the players and they were well aware of the tens of thousands of negative reviews, but Sony eventually responded by withdrawing the game from sale in countries and regions where the PlayStation Network service is not available. Although, according to some players, Valve has started to return money despite exceeding the normal playing time and the time since purchase, but the main thing was still missing – a statement directly from Sony with what and how will actually happen next. With the game, with the developers, for the players… That has just changed, with players congratulating themselves on yet another battle won as they turn the company around.

Early this morning, Sony finally broke their silence and responded quite openly on social media, giving fans more than the answer they wanted. Moreover, in a positive way. “Helldivers fans – we’ve heard your feedback regarding the announcement of account linking in Helldivers 2,” the new statement begins. Subsequently, Sony reverses and states that the obligation to link accounts, which was supposed to come into effect for new players on this very day, May 6, and for existing players from June, no longer applies and will not be needed. “We’re always figuring out what’s best for PC gamers, and your feedback is invaluable. Thanks again for your continued support of Helldivers 2 and we’ll keep you posted on future plans,” Sony concludes. By that time, the anger of the players on Steam was enough to increase so much that the number of negative reviews reached 200 thousand ratings, after which it began to manifest itself in other games from PlayStation Studios, as well as the first Helldivers. Now, after three unpleasant days, Helldivers 2’s score could gradually begin to rise again. So far, however, the game has not returned to sale in the affected countries, but that is perhaps only a matter of time.

Some players are celebrating, others are calling for an end to “hunting the game” and attacking innocent developers. Although Arrowhead developers were against this obligation, studio head Johan Pilestedt nevertheless he admitted, that they are not entirely blameless either. The future need to link accounts was well known before release and at the time it was his decision to temporarily disable it and allow players to play right away. But it was their fault that they didn’t draw enough attention to it and didn’t talk about that day coming. However, it is evident that the negotiations with Sony were going somewhere and that the company could not escape how they managed to provoke the players. One of the most played and at the same time the most popular games of this year had to deal with the hatred of its players out of nowhere, but now they could all come together again and start spreading democracy again.
