Latvian cross-country skier Patrīcija Eidukas qualified for the elimination battles in the freestyle sprint competition at the 12th stage of the World Cup cross-country skiing in Finland on Sunday, while Lauris Kaparkalējs won the relatively high 37th place for an athlete.

In the qualification, Eiduka achieved the 15th fastest time, completing the course in three minutes and 4.94 seconds. She lost 8.10 seconds to Sweden’s Jonna Sundling, the owner of the best result.

Among Latvian skiers, Kitija Auziņa finished in 59th place, 23.41 seconds behind the leader, while Samanta Krampe lost 26.97 seconds and finished in 61st position.

The 30 fastest skiers in the competition of 63 athletes made it to the elimination matches.

In the men’s qualification, Kaparkalējs finished in two minutes and 46.01 seconds, only 1.2 seconds short of overcoming the qualification barrier. Norwegian Johannes Klebo was the fastest in the qualification, who was 9.8 seconds faster than Kaparkalei.

Raimo Vigants lost exactly 15 seconds in the qualification to Klebo, which gave him 69th place in the competition of 81 athletes.

At the beginning of the year, Eiduka won the fifth place in the last stage of the “Tour de Ski” series in Italy, repeating the highest result in the history of Latvian skiing, but the Latvian was eighth overall, achieving a new record.

In March, stages will also be held in Oslo and Drammen (Norway), as well as in Falun (Sweden).
