HARIAN DISWAY – The Eta Aquarids meteor shower phenomenon will light up the sky again on Sunday evening, May 5 2024 until Monday morning, May 6 2024 before sunrise.
This rare event promises a spectacular view in the sky with the presence of around 30 to 50 Eta Aquarids meteors twinkling per hour, creating a stunning natural phenomenon.
The Eta Aquarids meteor shower will take place from April 19 to May 28 2024. The speed of this meteor will reach its peak at 65.4 km/sec, decorating the sky with its shine.

This natural phenomenon occurs when the Earth passes through the remaining dust and meteoroids from Halley’s comet which passed decades ago. When the remaining dust enters the Earth’s atmosphere, they burn themselves out and look like shooting stars.

With an abundant amount of remaining dust, this meteor shower presents an extraordinary view that looks like a true meteor shower from the earth’s surface.
The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) revealed that the peak of the Eta Aquarids meteor shower can be enjoyed in Indonesia in the early hours of Monday morning at around 03.00 WIB until just before sunrise.
“At its peak, it is estimated that around 50 to 60 meteors will be visible every hour,” said Thomas Djamaluddin, an astronomer and astrophysicist at the BRIN Space Research Center.
Even though it is outside the peak phase, people can still witness this phenomenon with a smaller number of meteors. For the best experience, it is recommended to direct your gaze towards the sky in the east and southeast.
Avoid locations with light pollution or excessive lighting so as not to interfere with your view of the sky. Apart from that, choose a location that is not blocked by hills, trees or buildings.
