EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES) Faces Further Delays Amid Operational Concerns
The European Union’s Entry/Exit System (EES), designed to enhance border security by registering the travel of non-EU nationals, is experiencing ongoing implementation challenges and has seen its full operational deadline pushed back to September 2026. The system, which began a phased rollout on October 12th, 2025, aims to replace manual passport stamping with automated data collection of fingerprints and facial images for travelers from outside the EU and Schengen area, including citizens of the United Kingdom.

The EES covers 29 European countries – the 25 EU member states, plus Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein.
