Since January 7, the South American idol has been admitted to the Dharma clinic, a renowned psychiatry and mental health center, for treatment of hypomania. ‘Pocho’, before being hospitalized, had already spoken about his case, and, for his part, family, friends, former teammates, his ex-partner and world football fans have sent him continuous messages of support.

After being admitted to the mental health institution, several media reported that the former soccer player had been admitted to a clinic in Buenos Aires following a strong altercation at a nightclub. These statements were later categorically denied by his lawyer, Mauricio D’Alessandro.

The jurist specified: “He is not being treated for drug or alcohol abuse, but for a psychiatric disorder that can cause someone to harm themselves and that can be triggered by various factors.” Later, he explained that the diagnosis is “hypomania, a chronic mood disorder.”

D’Alessandro highlighted that Ezequiel’s mental disorder could lead to self-harming behavior and added: “He had already suffered the consequences of this pathology in the past.” Although visitors are not allowed in the first 20 days of treatment, the lawyer, keeping up to date through medical reports, noted that the former athlete’s recovery is “positive.”

However, according to the lawyer, in an interview for the French portal SoFoot, it is estimated that ‘Pocho’ requires approximately three additional weeks in hospital. At the end of this period, Lavezzi will decide if she continues the treatment voluntarily or if she discharges herself from the clinic.

It is necessary to mention that according to the information provided by the Graduate School of Psychology and Psychiatry, hypomania, an illness suffered by Ezequiel ‘Pocho’ Lavezzi, is “the state of mental exaltation, characterized by exorbitant levels of energy, disinhibition and propensity to to irritation.”

Be careful, a hypomanic episode can last from one to four days, presenting symptoms such as “having a lot of energy and feeling euphoric, sleeping less than usual, increasing self-esteem in a disproportionate way, thinking and speaking much faster than usual, having impulsive behaviors towards dangerous activities and increasing activity in the social, work or sexual sphere,” mentions the specialized portal Mejor con Salud and approved by psychologist Elena Sanz.

To establish an adequate diagnosis, by a specialist, it is necessary that the symptoms persist for a minimum period of four days. Furthermore, it is essential that the person manifests at least three of the previously detailed symptoms, as indicated by the source consulted.

The fight of Ezequiel Lavezzi

Ezequiel Lavezzi was interviewed by Matías Vázquez, from El Trece, prior to his admission to the psychiatric center and revealed that “I tried to clean myself in another clinic in Buenos Aires, but I couldn’t. I had no choice… It’s hard, but I have to do it. I have to change my life and my habits. And I have to do all that for my son. He had gone too far.”

Likewise, the journalist revealed that ‘Pocho’, with great sadness, had an intimate talk with his family and confessed that the best option was to be hospitalized. “Anyway, it came sailing. There was no choice but to come and admit me,” he stated.

As recalled, Lavezzi had to be hospitalized after being involved in an incident at his home, in which he was injured in the abdomen with cuts made with scissors. “At dawn, he started shouting and saying that there were people in the house. His brother started looking everywhere and grabbed some scissors… His brother told her that there was no one there. Ezequiel Lavezzi insisted yes. At that moment, he entered a state of tension and lost his temper. His brother grabs him and they fall. When Pocho fell he felt a sharp pain. The superficial wounds in the abdomen were caused by these scissors and not by any other injury, ”said his lawyer.

The Brazilian model Natalia Borges, who was Ezequiel Lavezzi’s partner, between 2020 and 2022, took advantage of social networks to send a message to the former soccer player. This occurred after a question from a follower about the current situation of the former Argentine soccer player.

“It’s difficult to talk about Pocho. I can say that I am very happy, that he is now doing what he had to do a long time ago. Now I hope with all my heart that I can find his peace of mind, his happiness, perhaps better friends and better company,” Borges initially stated.
