Fernando Alonso: Bad suspicion after Miami Sprint / Formula 1

Before and after the sprint in Miami, Formula 1 veteran Fernando Alonso clearly criticized the rule enforcers’ penalty policy. The two-time world champion also expressed a bad suspicion.

Fernando Alonso received a penalty for his duel with compatriot Carlos Sainz in the Chinese sprint. The 10 extra seconds that the regulators gave him had no effect because he parked his Aston Martin shortly before the end of the mini-race. The three penalty points he received were still painful.

Because it was the second time after the Australian GP that he received three penalties. At Albert Park he had conceded the same number for an unexpected braking maneuver in a duel with George Russell. He was also given a 20-second penalty. The Aston Martin team had the decision of the regulators in China reviewed, but without success. The new evidence presented is new, but not significant because it does not provide a new perspective, it was argued.

Alonso was annoyed about the penalties even before the verdict was announced. Especially since there was an accident at the start in the Miami sprint, which was caused by Lewis Hamilton and which had no consequences for the seven-time world champion. The two-time champion referred to the fact that Hamilton’s late braking maneuver had caused damage to both the Aston Martin racers of Alonso and Stroll and the McLaren of Lando Norris, which resulted in the Canadian and Briton’s retirement.

And he expressed the suspicion that the nationality of the drivers played a role in the assessment of punishment: “I received a penalty in the China Sprint for my action against Sainz. I already thought that Hamilton wouldn’t receive a penalty for all of this. “He’s not Spanish,” he emphasized after the Miami sprint.

And Alonso also announced that he would talk to FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem about it: “I have the feeling that nationality plays a role. I will talk to Mohammed and the FIA about it. I have to make sure that my nationality or anything else influences the decisions. It’s not just about me, but about the future generation of Spanish pilots.”
