It seems like a great idea to place decorative items on your windowsills, but in reality, there are some heavily used objects that you shouldn’t place in this part of the house. Which? John Cutts, glass expert at MeandMyGlass.co.uk, quoted on blog aggregator Huffpost, listed examples. Take note!

Five objects that you should never place on the windowsill:

  • Perfume. Generally, “temperature fluctuations can damage your favorite aromas and make them expire more quickly”;
  • Spray deodorant. When the can is exposed to direct sunlight for a long time, “the pressure begins to increase inside, which can cause it to explode”, he explains;
  • Mirrors. When they are close to windows they can “pose a serious fire risk, even in cold temperatures, the strong rays of the sun can cause major problems”;
  • Candles. It is possible that “sunlight from the window could cause the candle to ignite, even if it is not very hot outside, posing a fire risk”;
  • Cell phone. It can “easily overheat if left on a windowsill for long periods of time.”
