During the afternoon of this Saturday, the 4th, the Brusque Health Department confirmed the record of four cases of oropouche fever, a disease caused by an arbovirus and transmitted mainly by mosquitoes, the main one being maruim.

The confirmed cases are residents of the neighborhoods: Limeira, São Pedro, Dom Joaquim and Bateas. All those affected are well, following the procedures, according to information from the secretariat.

State symptoms and actions

The symptoms of Oropouche fever are very similar to those of dengue, such as body pain, headache, nausea and diarrhea. There is still no specific treatment to treat the disease. In case of symptoms, the patient must seek a Basic Health Unit (UBS) to be able to carry out the tests and identify the disease.

In Santa Catarina, now with cases registered in Brusque, there are 10 confirmed cases of the disease, four in the municipality, five in the neighboring city, Botuverá, and one more in Luiz Alves.

According to the State Health Department, a series of complementary actions in the locations will be developed by the Municipal Health Departments in conjunction with the State and the Ministry of Health.

Among the actions are systematizing information on suspected and confirmed cases (movements, symptoms, clinical picture, etc.), collecting vectors for entomological survey and forwarding samples from other patients for testing by the Central Public Health Laboratory of Santa Catarina, with the objective of strengthening disease surveillance.
