From Carpets, Cosmetics, to Motorbikes: IDF Soldiers Loot Houses in Gaza En masse

TRIBUNNEWS.COM – The Israeli Occupation Army (IDF) fighting in Gaza does not hesitate to upload videos on social media gleefully documenting the destruction of buildings and humiliation of Palestinian prisoners.

Some of the clips were even showcased in South Africa’s presentation at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) last month as evidence of genocide.

However, there is another easily documented war crime by IDF soldiers that has received less attention and condemnation despite its prevalence, looting.

In November, Palestinian singer Hamada Nasrallah was shocked to discover a TikTok showing a soldier playing the guitar his father bought him 15 years ago.

Other recent videos uploaded to social media show IDF soldiers bragging about finding watches, unboxing someone’s football shirt collection, and stealing rugs, groceries and jewelry.

In a Facebook group for Israeli women consisting of nearly 100,000 users, someone wondered what to do with a “gift from Gaza” her colleague, a soldier, had brought her.

Sharing photos of cosmetic products, she wrote, “Everything is sealed except for one product. Will you use this? And does anyone know the product, or is it only available in Gaza?

Omission by the Troop Commander

It is true, since the start of Israel’s ground military aggression in late October 2023, IDF soldiers have taken whatever they can get from the homes of Palestinians who were forced to flee.

More than just an open secret, this phenomenon has been widely reported and uncritical in the Israeli media.

Rabbis from the Religious Zionist movement have answered the army’s question about what is permissible to loot under Jewish law.

Soldiers returning from fighting in Gaza confirmed to +972 Magazine and Local Call if this phenomenon is everywhere.

In fact, most IDF commanders and troop leaders allowed this to happen.

“People take things; mugs, books, each souvenir that was useful for him,” said a soldier who admitted he took a “souvenir” from one of the health centers occupied by the IDF.
