Rucking, the military practise of moving long distances with a heavy pack, proved to be a more demanding test than even the most grueling bike races.It requires a different kind of endurance and mental fortitude. “Bike racing, she confirmed, was easier than ‘rucking‘,” highlighting the unique physical demands of military training.
Balancing Civilian Life and Military Duty
For several years, Audino successfully navigated the dual demands of a civilian career at Specialized, a leading bicycle manufacturer, and her commitment to the Marine Corps Reserves.This balance allowed her to pursue her passions while serving her country.
Focusing on criterium races proved strategically advantageous. they presented fewer logistical hurdles compared to other cycling disciplines while she managed both career paths. It was a true win-win situation.
Expanding Horizons: Operation Freedom Shield
In 2023, Audino had the possibility to participate in Operation Freedom Shield, a important joint military exercise in South Korea. This month-long deployment involved collaboration with the Republic of Korea Marines and all branches of the U.S.Department of Defense.
The experience was invaluable, fostering camaraderie and demonstrating the power of international cooperation. Working alongside service members from around the globe broadened her viewpoint and reinforced her commitment to service.
